ppsmi

Salam Tun,

I do not agree with Science and Maths to be taught in BM.

I was one of the last batch to be taught in English as medium of instruction in 1984 in Sarawak. Onwards from there , i have seen a decline in English proficiency compared to my younger brothers and cousins. as a result, when they go out to find work...they find it very difficult to cope when dealing with technical report writing / international companies/even major private companies who use English as a medium for all their daily business dealing.

Nak converse dalam BM tak ada masalah terutama in normal daily lives and many other instances tapi when it comes to official business language it is all in English. When it comes to technology, all books in English...how fast can they translate to BM.?? How many books have been translated?
This is where the current generation will lack and we will fall back .

Regards,

Age 7 :
His komputer sains teacher taught him papan kekunci, skrin, tetikus, kayu gembira, unit pemprosesan pusat, ingatan capaian rawak, ingatan baca sahaja

Age 7-18 :
Meanwhile he continues to search sarang labah-labah sedunia for kayu gembira...& got none in return

Age 19 : he enters university
Now he is taught keyboard, screen, mouse, joystick, CPU, RAM, ROM
He realised that his search on WWW for joystick is more meaningful.

Age 19 onwards :
He sticks to keyboard, screen, mouse, joystick, CPU, RAM, ROM

So, is he a better person knowing kayu gembira ? Has this improve his BM ?

What is the point of spending effort translating a technology language just to make it another language. We are just adding a redundant step in our technolog pursuit.

Meanwhile, they will keep sending their kids overseas..... & the translator and publisher gets happier.
